Earth Day 2022 is focused on sustainability. Companies are filled with good intentions and goals, but only that doesn’t always translate appropriately.
As they say, we need to act (boldly), innovate (broadly), and implement (equitably), and it’s going to take all of us. It’s a partnership for the planet.
We all have an impact on the environment. That is why it is important to be aware of the options we have, and always look for the least harmful ones.
It is very simple but not all of us do it. It is a matter of turning off the taps when we are not using the water. Or take a shower instead of a bath. And as for light, is it necessary to have all the lights in the house and office on? Each action counts, and no matter how little we save, if we all do it, the amount can be substantial.
We are used to seeing plastic in the most remote places in the world. We find idyllic beaches that receive tons of plastic. There is plastic in the desert! It is up to us to use reusable options. For your next in-person meeting, be conscious of the plastics you are using for activities and such.
A study published in New Scientist magazine shows that each person can reduce the amount of greenhouse gasses that his or her diet contributes to climate change by up to 60 per cent—just by going vegan. Eating vegan also helps stop animal suffering and improves and protects our own health. Consider a vegan option for lunch or dinner during your next in-person meeting to make a positive impact on the environment.
In the travel industry, for example, there is much that can be done. Because the data is there, but it is important to take it into account when organizing trips. Decisions about which flights to choose, or where to stay, have a direct impact on the carbon footprint. But it is necessary to have visibility over this data. And in the world of business travel and meeting planning, there’s plenty of room for improvement.
Meeting in person is now much rarer as we managed without it for so long. It’s, indeed, much harder to justify, although the activity is more valuable than ever because we have been separated. Having up-to-date data to make the right decision on whether to meet in person, virtually or in a hybrid format is a must-have for companies of any size. However, this has not been available to access dynamically from a single source until now.
As companies focus on their environmental commitments they are turning to TROOP to help guide their teams as they aim to keep to carbon targets.
